The day I started my fitness regime, I planted some salad leaf seeds. From this point forward I have tasty competition. Who will prosper best in the next 6 weeks? It's going to be a close call. The seeds have to battle against the traumatic British Summer, whilst I have to battle against lethargy.
However! I am delighted to say that I have done some exercise every day so far. I can report that the weight bench is solidly made and also that it is physically impossible for me to do declined sit ups on said bench as my back just says 'You want me to lower you to where? Noooooo I don't see that happening anytime soon, thanks.'
The plan is to do weights one day and something else the next. Today will be an hour of Kinect sweating. This task will be fun if not slightly hardened by the fact that I am extremely stiff from the dumbell shoulder presses I did yesterday.
As for the salad? Well it has rained epically since I planted them. They could be flooded out. This is good news for me and bad news for the salad. Man takes the lead!

The road to fitness: A six week countdown.
It is my birthday in six weeks, exactly 6 months after Valentines Day (which is what I tell my friends in a vague attempt they'll remember it). The plan is to look better by then. I work in an industry where looking as good as you possibly can is important. The road to fitness begins now.
Day 1:
I'll rate these following activites out of 10 in order of their potential to help me look better.
Bought a weights and abs bench from Argos - 10
Thought about assembling weights bench, and then didn't - 1
Purchased an ethernet cable and a year's X-box Live Membership - 8 (If continuing to use Kinect Sports/Dance Central) or 2 (If get lulled into any game where the only movement required is to batter a joypad and scratch my bum occasionally)
Cut up and bagged some wood - 5 (Note. That wasn't a euphemism for self harm and safe sex)
Cycled to work - 5 (Would be more but it's a 10 minute journey)
Cycled home from work - 5 (Had no choice in the matter as had cycled to work earlier)
It's a start. It might be a scratched arm, saddle sore start, but it's a start all the same.

A first 'hullo.'
I've started this blog for a number of reasons.
1) To motivate myself. I am a useless self motivator. I start most days by mentally beasting my own body to persuade it to get out of bed.
2) I need to get fit. I bought a suit three days ago and I had to ask for a 36 inch waist. This is horrifying. I can bleat to all and sundry that I needed this size as it's a skinny suit and you always need to go one size higher than your usual size when wearing skinny stuff, but the fact is I'm knocking on the door of 14 stone and that is about 2 stone over my ideal weight. This blog provides a place to update on how I'm doing/provides a venue of shame for when I do nothing.
3) I quite like to write. I'm not very good at it but I want to get better.
We'll see how long it lasts.
